The natural beauty of Loreto
The town of Loreto is privileged to be surrounded by the uncanny combination of rugged mountains of Sierra la Giganta and the plentiful waters of the Sea of Cortez.
Although mostly a desert landscape, the mountains hide secret oasis where the water from scarce rains accumulates in ponds, trickling slowly towards the ocean and replenishing the aquifers that Loreto survives of.
The economy of Loreto depends on the tourism industry, its inhabitants enjoy a tight relationship with the ecosystem that feeds them. Loreto community advocates actively to develop sustainably, in harmony with its National Marine Park and the rural areas in the near mountains.

Services in Loreto
Loreto is located 694 miles south of the border (Tijuana). Accessible by car via Highway #1, by air from Calgary, Canada - West Jet, from Los Angeles USA - Alaska Airlines & from Tijuana, La Paz, Los Cabos or Guadalajara - Calafia Airlines. Also available by yatch or sailboat anchoring in the near harbor of Puerto Escondido or right in front of the local Marina.
The community of Loreto has everything for a comfortable living.
If you are planning to become a part-time resident or have a vacation place here, you should know that: the town has a hospital, a company that does Medic-Air to the US, good dentists, mechanic shops, pharmacies, shipping services, property management companies, lawyers, and veterinarians as well.
3 big supermarkets, a local Saturday farmers market, a vast array of restaurants, cute souvenir shops, few art galleries, and great tour companies.

Activities in Loreto
Although often seen as a sleepy town Loreto is full of wild activities nature related. Every day in Loreto is a new opportunity for adventure.
You can explore the islands by motorboat, kayak, sailboat, stand up paddleboard. Practice scuba diving, snorkeling and free diving in the wonderful Sea of Cortez. If not so much of a water person the "Sierra de la Giganta" offers plenty of great options to hike; from beginners walk on arroyos to impressive boulder climbing up lush canyons. If you are more interested about history then you will love to hear how Loreto became the first capital of all California, and how people in the mountains still live off the land the way the missionaries taught them to.
If you have not had enough excitement with that you join a mule riding tour or ride your motorbike through the desert.
